Society's Growing Vulnerability to Natural Hazards and Implications for Weather and Climate Research
Professor Julia Slingo, UK Met Office
February 1, 2012
Where: Applied Computational Engineering and Sciences (ACES) Building Avaya Auditorium, 2.302
When: Wednesday, Feb 1 from 2-3pm
What: Recent natural hazards around the world have raised awareness of our vulnerability, challenged our scientific understanding, and questioned our ability to predict and prepare for such events. This lecture will take recent examples and use them to explore implications for the research agenda in weather and climate modeling and prediction and how to translate predictions into advice, products and services that address user needs.
