Zero Waste Grocery Store Coming to Austin
February 01, 2012Austin already has a fair amount of organic, eco-friendly grocery stores, such as Whole Foods, the Wheatsville Co-Op, and Colorado transplant Natural Grocers. Now a trio of brothers and their business partner are introducing their own with in.gredients, the first "package-free and zero-waste" grocery store in the nation. Everything will be sold in bulk, and most of their groceries will be locally produced and organically grown. The idea arose because 40 percent of the 1.4 billion pounds of trash heading to landfills each day comes from packaging.
Customers are encouraged to bring their own containers from home to fill with groceries. However, compostable containers will still be offered in-store. Check out the video below and go here to learn more.
